Production Arts/Technical Theatre Level 3 Diploma in Production Arts + Extended Diploma in Production Arts
Our mission is to train you to become the best possible production technician or designer, provide you with the skills of an industry professional to get hired and empower you to make and develop your own work. The Miskin Theatre Level 3 Diploma takes a holistic, multi-disciplinary approach and is designed uniquely around the two-year time frame for maximum impact.
What is it?
Working at the Miskin Theatre will allow you to develop your skills in all areas of Production Arts. This includes set design and construction, costume design and management, lighting, sound and stage management.
The Miskin Theatre has a unique and pioneering approach to training. We recognise that most of our technicians intend to make a career within the industry itself and we fully encourage and support progression.
Many of our technicians move on to drama schools and universities and also employment within the creative industries. Our success rates and progression testify to our success, as do the range of technicians now working or continuing their training in the creative industries.
As a technician/designer you will gain many essential skills and experience that will benefit your future career. You will need to possess some skills already, but we will help you to develop them while you’re with us.
What will I learn?
Practical skills and techniques, marketing and career development, with assessment through projects designed to an industrial model and working in a vocational theatre environment.
Which Technical Theatre Pathways are available?
Design and Applied Arts- Set and Costume Design-Scenic Construction-Scenic Art-Prop Making and Costume Production Skills- Sound and Lighting Design
Lighting and Sound-Sound and Lighting Design, Operation and Technical Theatre production processes relating to lighting and sound.
Production and Stage Management- covering the roles of Stage Manager, Deputy and Assistant Stage Manager as well as production management skills.
What qualification will I gain?
On completion of your 1st year you will gain a UAL Level 3 Diploma in Performing & Production Arts (Production Arts).
On completion of your 2nd Year you will gain a UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing & Production Arts (Production Arts).
What progression options will I have?
Many of our technicians move on to some of the top drama schools throughout the country, including Rose Bruford, Central School of Speech and Drama, L.I.P.A, Mountview, Glamorgan and A.L.R.A. to name a few. However, you will also be equipped with skills to take you directly into the industry.

There is an academic requirement of 5 GCSE’s at GRADE C/ 9-4 or equivalent (must include English and Maths).
